Reclaimed Oak Staircase
Updated: Jul 20
This statement staircase came to being through a client who had renovated the whole of their large barn conversion, except the stairs.
It was a big space, and it needed a statement staircase to fit in with the grand-scale of their UK home.
Working with an architect to produce the drawings, that would eventually be sent for laser cutting from 6mm steel, I saw my initial ideas come to life in something that met with building control standards, structural requirements and of course the clients approval. I like how the mid-rise landing creates a kind of balcony overlooking the kitchen where hungry children can call for their dinner.
Finding the right reclaimed timber for the job took me slightly further afield than usual. I eventually found this oversized
Oak, that had previously been lock gates in the Birmingham canal, at a specialist timber yard.
I worked with laser cutters, steel formers and welders to realise the final piece with the help of 4 man-power on installation day.
A staircase is just a handmade piece of furniture in your home that you happen to walk on, could this be the bespoke piece of statement furniture for your UK home?
